Clearwire is a leading WiMAX operator and has its presence in U.S., Mexico, Belgium, Denmark, Germany, Ireland, Spain, Poland, and Romania. It was founded by Craig McCaw, the force behind AT&T Wireless and Nextel Communications. Clearwire is backed by investments from Intel, Motorola and Bell Canada and is operational in 42 areas covering over 350 municipalities in the U.S. Clearwire offers broadband wireless access using spectrum in the 2.5 - 2.7 GHz and 3.4 - 3.8 GHz bands added data services in the Arabian Peninsula. In May 2008, Clearwire, Sprint, Google, Intel, and Time Warner formed a WiMAX joint venture worth $12 billion to launch wireless broadband services throughout USA.
