Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Qtel and CEO of Qtel International.

Dr. Marafih holds a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering, a Master of Science and a PhD. in Communication Engineering, all from George Washington University, USA. He joined University of Qatar in 1986 first as a lecturer and research assistant and then as assistant professor in the Electrical Engineering department.

Dr. Nasser started his career at Qtel in 1992 as expert advisor from the University of Qatar and was involved in the introduction of the first GSM service in the Middle East in Feb 1994. Later in 1994 he joined Qtel as the Director of Strategic Planning and Development. He led a number of strategic initiatives in the company’s history including the introduction of Internet services to Qatar in 1996 and played a key role in the privatisation of Qtel in 1998.

Since becoming CEO in 2002, he has led the company from strength to strength, successfully guiding Qtel through its transformation program from being a local telecom provider to an international player.

Dr. Nasser has spearheaded Qtel’s global growth in recent years, including Qtel’s acquisition of Wataniya Telecom, its strategic deal with AT&T to gain an equity stake in NavLink, Qtel’s strategic partnership with ST Telemedia in Singapore , as well as the company’s purchase of a controlling stake in Indosat of Indonesia.

Dr. Nasser participated in a number of high level committees in the government. He is a member of the Board of Directors for Nawras, Qtel’s subsidiary in Oman, and a non-executive director in board of Starhub Ltd. of Singapore. He has been the Commissioner of Indosat since August 2008. Dr. Nasser is also a Non-Executive Director for Liberty Telecoms Holding Inc of the Philippines and sits on the Board of the Al Thuraya Satellite Company, Tunisiana, Asiacell, Nedjma, Wataniya Kuwait, Wataniya Palestine.
